    Self-Portrait Proposal

I am off to create a selfie. Some kind of juxtaposition of images that tell a story… describe an order to my chaotic travels. Here it goes. And I chose these images to represent me in the collage because, well, they’re all pretty good masks and an image can never really represent self. Therefore I’m making a painting of sorts. The goal is to create a surreal landscape that is cohesive as a whole by using my many new photoshop skills 🙂

Since I am so insignificant in the face of the lonely infinite, I think my self-portrait should be comprised of everything that is not me or my likeness. But in the likely event that I am unable to solve that obtuse existential–mythic equation in artistic form, here’s my secondary proposal: (drumroll) …I shall create a portrait of myself with the images of my odyssey through the infinite; the remaining vestiges of surviving ghost pixels of my travel, lonely and peopled. I will use that remnant imagery of my travels to paint small brush strokes which reveal the larger me.

Folded Book–– “Lords & the New Seers”

The imagery of this book is inspired by the self-published book “Notes on Vision: The Lords and the New Creatures”, written by poet James Douglas Morrison, a.k.a Jim Morrison singer of the doors; a.k.a. the “Lizard King”. This poetry book was written from room 32 in what Jim called the “Green Hotel”, a dive just off the Sunset Strip in Hollywood.
“I am a guide to the labyrinth
Come & see me in the green hotel
    Rm. 32
    I will be there after 9:30 P.M.
I will show you the girl of the ghetto
I will show you the burning well
I will show you strange people
    haunted, beast-like, on the
    verge of evolution
    -Fear The Lords who are
    secret among us”

Some of these images were taken in the “Green Hotel”, where I scrawled “Lords” on the wall during my own strange evolution; some were taken in the desert; all of the imagery is inspired by the words of the Poet. I took liberties in the Rimbaudian lineage of Poet as ‘thief of fire”.

Really I see this as the story of the strong inspiration that coaxed me and some fellow travelers to break down “notes on vision” into a soluble metamorphose. For us this boiled down, eventually to the creation of two albums still in progress: Last Vintage (Lords) and The Other (New Seers). You can download the latest version of The Other below AT NO COST.

e Dreams: Dreaming Reality––Surrealism In Digital Media

This is a multi-media composed of the juxtaposition of various incongruous images. Ice walls on berry bushes form the backdrop of a North Hollywood neighborhood walk; the Entourage style photo of New Seers taken by Rolling Stone photographer, Heather Harris, is the creative property of this digital media artist.

On these ice-berry- walls are various New Seers posters. Here, rescaling to add miniature detail is the key. Poster images are warped to give the reality of wrapping around the concrete light post–– this post is a photo of the artists notebook drawing. Also extracted from the artists notebook is a sketch of a colorful surreal tree, which is placed in front of the large church house. The smudge tool blends the edges to give it a windy feel. Out of the photo of a church roof grows a (now obsolete) star sculpture. A photo of a swirling toy top with reduced opacity forms the mystical orb around the sculpture. The three doorways to the church are a midnight sky, a twilight sky and an afternoon sky, or winter, autumn & summer. There is a miniature mushroom world: a house, a church house (from downtown) and a court house. Not only was rescaling size necessary for this effect, but also distorting proportion due to the angle at which the source photos were taken.

Other elements include a rainbow sky photo shaped into a jumping dolphin with the erase tool, a giant proportioned transformed scale mushroom with a cathedral window warped to give it a 3D effect at the angle of the cap slant, and eyeballs taken from a photo of the band in front of a mural in Mexico. Arguably, the strangest element is the burning “Lords” fire in the sky. This was created by painting a glitter mural on a wall and using an effect on its photograph. The hovering face in the sky, created by use of a reduced opacity, serves as a watermark which gives the composition a hint of a strange electronic currency. Overall, the image’s division into thirds creates a cinematic effect. This mashup will probably be the inlay for the “e Lords” album in progress titled “Last Vintage”.

Ahhhh, yes… speaking of surreal: check out The Other by the New Seers. The album theme is the reality of dreaming. Download at no cost; donations accepted 😉

FINGG ! A Social & Digital Media Graffiti Artist

FINGG Outside The Box: Social Media Gallery For Art

Perhaps it’s the worldview FINGG presents through realism. Or is it surrealism…. I really cannot tell.
All I can say is Aryeh’s art, on the social media gallery, shows he is a man of action.

FINGG’S webpage features these soaring biographical aphorisms:
Aryeh Teplow-Phipps is a 30 year old man boy. He lives in America. He loves America. He also loves well peeled oranges, good coffee, cake that isn’t too sweet, girls that smell good, making YouTube videos, playing with his pretend mustache, dreaming of shooting guns at tin cans while sipping lemonade, and one day he hopes to save enough money to be able to afford stock photography.

The starving artist is such a cliche, and fortunately, it might become a thing of the past. Using social media tools and platforms, visual artists have new ways to market their work and connect with buyers far and wide. And because these websites are free to use, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram are quickly becoming as important to an artist as the paintbrush and palette.
